Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET)
Every child should have the opportunity to learn an instrument, for a minimum of 10 weeks weekly tuition. Most programmes are for 30 weeks between the ages of 5-11 years. In most schools the pupils learn the instrument as a whole class with their class teacher and a visiting instrumental specialist/Accredited teacher. We strongly believe that this should be available for all regardless of circumstance or background.
In line with the National Plan for Music Education, programmes are available which are high quality, inspiring and an ideal platform for the pupils to continue their instrumental learning.
‘Our Whole Class Wider Opportunities programme at Littlecoates Primary is a totally inclusive experience which engages all pupils in high quality music making. The pupil’s enjoyment is visible when they are both learning and performing.
This programme has given the pupils at Littlecoates Primary the opportunity to broaden their life experiences.’
Rosalind Smith– Head Teacher

As well as the important musical benefits of the WCET programme, it is also recognised that there are many further opportunities for developing skills such as:

- Greater independent learning

- Managing behaviour problems
- Emotional development
The provision consists of weekly 45 minute lessons for one term (10 weeks) and is delivered by a specialist instrumental tutor. The most successful programmes are where the class teacher is integral to this delivery and approach.
Instruments are loaned to schools/academies for the duration of their WCET programme from Mapas.
All of these programmes are delivered within a school setting. Contact MAPAS for more information 01472 323113
